The International Life Teen staff plans, prepares, and executes the programming, so the hard-work is already done. Your duty as a youth minister is to arrive at camp, play and pray with new friends from every corner of the world. Each week-long camp includes the perfect balance of enough time to encounter Christ and plenty of time to play. Every week, a line-up of dynamic hosts, talented musicians, and dedicated priests serve along with camp staff to encourage a deeper relationship with Christ for any camper.
We serve all you can eat meals everyday, so you will never go hungry. There is plenty of time for group sharing, ultimate frisbee, hiking, soccer, volleyball or just hanging out. Group leaders and chaperones are expected to supervise their groups, and ensure that everyone has a safe experience.
2. Who runs the camp?
A group of very talented and well-trained ministers serve at our camps. Each camp has a ministry team formed with the following groups: college-aged summer staff, who spend weeks being educated on relational ministry and youth protection policies, talented musicians from across the country, most with record labels from OCP or other production companies, priests with many years of administering sacraments and a heart for the Life Teen model, as well as weathered youth ministers hosting each week. The team prays together for months leading up to camp to invite the Holy Spirit to be present during camp in each one of them. Every week of camp has the same programming, but with a touch of personality from all of the guests at camp.
3. Who creates the theme/programming?
Last year our camp theme was Giddy-up: Year of the Eucharist. We developed that theme through the declaration of the Year of the Eucharist by Pope John Paul II in October 2004. We incorporated the different forms (ie. Taken, Blessed, Broken, etc.) the Eucharist takes throughout the Mass. Each day held a different message and was investigated throughout all of the activities.
This year’s theme is currently under construction and will be released soon. Stayed tuned!
4. What is an away day at camp?
At each one of our camp locations we visit and off site location for the day, such as hiking at the Grand Canyon, experiencing Six Flags Mid-America, or white-water rafting. Within this day we will experience an adventure that one person would do with friends or family, but we integrate our Catholic faith and the teachings of the Church. The relationships developed with new friends from across the country will be the moments you will remember the most.
5. Who attends camp during one week?
Parishes from across the globe come to a camp for a week at a time. For an individual week, we may have as many as 15 different parishes. One hundred and fifty campers complete any given week, so just imagine the number of new friend you can make. You can keep in touch with those new friends over the school year for years to come. You will always have the camp memories and then come back each year to see your friends from all over.
6. What is the most important part of camp?
Relational ministry. Luke 24- The Emmaus walk, when Jesus meets a man walking and then walks with him just listening and asking questions about his life. We are all called to walk with one another on our faith journey just as Jesus did. The development of relationships with one another; peers, teens, and adults is critical in order to share Jesus and be a light of Christ to one another. The relationship built with love is what our faith is based on, so what better way to meet people and love them but through a week of camp.
7. Where do we stay at camp?
Housing is cabin-type sleeping for youth and chaperones. Chaperones and youth will be in the same room according to the diocesan policies in which the camp is located. Linens are not provided in the rooms, each participant should bring a sleeping bag or linens and a pillow. Other housing arrangements must be made for bus drivers. We are happy to accommodate any special needs for an individual in your group. Please inform the Life Teen office as soon as possible in order for us to do our best to accommodate your specific needs (please include any special diets and or allergies).
8. How much does summer camp cost, and what does that include?
The price for one week at summer camp is $400 per participant .
A participant is a Group Leader, Adult Chaperone, or a Youth attending camp. This price includes meals for the entire week starting with Monday night dinner through Saturday lunch. It also includes lodging, programming, an off-camp adventure, a camp gift, and spiritual enrichment. Read More
