To Prescott:
- Take I-17 North from Phoenix (towards Flagstaff).
- Exit I-17 at Highway 69 (North) to Prescott. The sign at the exit (#262) says Cordes Lakes or Cordes Junction.
- After you exit, you’ll curve to the left (unless you need gas or McDonalds- it’s on the right). Stay on this road all the way into Prescott.
- You will pass through several small towns: Mayer, Dewey, Humboldt, and Prescott Valley.
- When you enter Prescott, you will be on Gurley Street, which is the main street through town.
If you’ve been to Tepeyac before, you’re used to turning left downtown onto Montezuma (Whiskey Row), and then right onto Copper Basin Rd. BUT… Copper Basin Rd. is closed for major construction (scheduled to last another year). They do have a detour thru the neighborhood, but as they’ve worked their way up Copper Basin, the detour has become very long and winds through neighborhoods. - we have a much better way for you to go;
- DO NOT turn off of Gurley St downtown at the courthouse, just keep going on Gurley St. through town and out the other side. Gurley will eventually make a big curve to the left- you’ll see Casa Sanchez Mexican Food restaurant on the left at the curve. Shortly after that, (just over one half mile) you will see a long, brown, brick wall on the left- your turn is coming up.
- At the end of that wall, turn left onto Hassayampa Village Dr. - you will be entering the Hassayampa community- a beautiful area. Hasayampa will run right into Copper Basin at the stop sign, past the worst of the construction.
- Turn right onto Copper Basin, and proceed on up the mountain to camp as usual. If you’ve never been here before, know that the last 2 miles are not paved. Since you’ll be in the Prescott National Forest, it might feel like you’ve gone too far (especially if you arrive at night). Just keep going- you can’t miss our sign on the right.
